Character Education

Character Education

 Oak Crest focuses on character traits as a method of organizing guidance expectations. Students will learn the definitions and importance of characteristics such as: respect, responsibility, tolerance, caring, honesty, etc.  Each month students will be introduced to a new character trait that will help them become more successful citizens. Character champions, students who have been caught displaying outstanding character, are recognized every morning on the announcements.

ECISD Character Traits

SEPTEMBER

Respect - Students will demonstrate RESPECT for others.  In school, life, and career settings, students will accept the right of all people to be treated with courtesy and dignity.

OCTOBER               

Responsibility - Students will learn RESPONSIBILITY which leads to moral, legal, and mental accountability for their choices.

Work Ethic – Students will strive to work to full potential each and every day.  WORK ETHIC is the willingness to work hard and stay focused when things become difficult.

NOVEMBER

Caring & Fairness - Students will exhibit strong and equitable behavior consistent with CARING and FAIRNESS, and the laws and principles that govern a democratic society.

DECEMBER

Loyalty - Students will recognize the need to establish LOYALTY in their personal and career relationships.  They will select social causes based on ethical principles for which they can remain true and loyal.

JANUARY

Perseverance - Students will acknowledge the importance of persistence and PERSEVERANCE while encountering negative influence, forms of opposition, or discouragement.

FEBRUARY

Tolerance- Students will recognize diversity in their lives and learn TOLERANCE by developing fair and objective attitudes toward those whose opinions, practices, race, religion and nationality that differ from their own.

MARCH

Self-Reliance & Dependability  - Students will believe in their own self-worth and learn to rely on their strengths.  Exhibiting SELF-RELIANCE and DEPENDABILITY, students will demonstrate knowledge of their impression on others, and the way they present their skills and abilities.

APRIL

Honesty & Integrity - Students will demonstrate trustworthiness and HONESTY through a variety of activities and behavior enhancing their own character development in relationship building. Students will understand the importance of personal INTEGRITY and character.  Adherence to this code of conduct will create successful performance in the workplace and in their personal lives.

MAY

Self- Discipline - Students will demonstrate positive patterns of behavior and personal SELF-DISCIPLINE through learning activities. Through the strength of mental and moral courage, students will accomplish tasks, manage time, and effectively relate with others.
